WayV (Label V旗下男子组合威神V) is a new sub-unit of NCT, that have a Chinese nationality member (except ten) and will make their debut on January, 2019. WayV members will be (from left) Kun, YangYang, Winwin, Lucas, Ten, XiaoJun, and Hendery. The seven-member group will pursue promotions both in and outside of China, and they may join NCT’s future activities. SM will be responsible for producing the group, who will make their debut through Label V, the Chinese agency SM has a joint venture with.

2016–2018: Pre-debut
Seven members of NCT China were originally part of SM Rookies, a pre-debut training team maintained by SM Entertainment. In January 2016, SM founder Lee Soo-man announced plans for a new boy group, with several different units to be based in cities around the world.
Ten debuted with the first unit, NCT U, on April 10, 2016. Winwin debuted as part of the 2nd unit, NCT 127, on July 7, 2016. Kun and Lucas were announced as new members of NCT 2018 and NCT U respectively. WayV was first announced on August 13, 2018, via NCT's Twitter, under the project name, NCT China. It was confirmed their debut and real name to be revealed in late 2018. On October 13, the first image was revealed, showing Lucas, Kun, Ten, Winwin and SM Rookies Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang. On October 15, SM announced that the unit would debut with an all-Chinese lineup in November 2018, with Chinese market promotions beginning in 2019.
On December 31st, 2018, a Weibo post confirmed their lineup and group name as WayV, with their official debut in January of 2019.
